Not the Booker

So I missed being long listed for the Man-Booker – but have had a nomination for The Guardian’s Not the Booker. Yay.

More nominations welcome. I’ve always wanted a Guardian mug.

  1. did you read the guardian’s spin on the normal booker criteria – boring imperial-guilt books?

i suspect the ‘person’ that nominated you, and went into great detail describing the boring imperial-guilt angle of your book, was having a laugh.

  2. Dear Miss Foffey,
I have with interest and with optimism read the adventures of the girl on the green bicycle I believe it forms an interesting insight into the feelings of the expats who lived through the Williams years, and what has followed. The book forms a part of an introspection, perhaps a move to revise our political past, one that was built on the notion of inherited guilt and inherited victimhood. It will take a long time to erase the Williams syndrome if ever, this book will help.

  3. Thank you very much. I am very flattered by your words. I am coming to Trinidad to launch the book in September – I hope we can meet then. I will send you an invite!
